Activity

There are lots of benefits from taking part in regular physical activity, which is why adults are recommended to do some type of activity every day.

Adults should aim to achieve 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity a week or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity a week. It’s important to include:

  • Strengthening activities that work all the major muscle groups (legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders and arms) on at least 2 days a week
  • Spread exercise evenly over 4 to 5 days, or every day

It’s also important to reduce time sitting or lying down and break up long periods of not moving with some activity.

Being active can help with improved sleep, maintaining a healthy weight and in managing stress. There are lots of resources out there to help you if you are ready to start your fitness journey or would like ideas for new ways to move more.
