Level Three Paediatric First Aid

A course developed for those working with children and infants.  In particular teachers, child-minders, early years practitioners, early years and childcare providers and anyone with responsibility for the welfare of children and infants.

Ideal for those who have responsibility for children and infants, wishing to gain a nationally accredited Level 3 Award or have a comprehensive knowledge of paediatric first aid.

This two-day course satisfies requirements in the  Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage. In order to obtain this qualification, you must attend both days and complete the two units of accreditation.

Learning outcomes

The learner will:

  1. Understand the role and responsibility of the paediatric first aider
  2. Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
  3. Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
  4. Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  5. Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is choking
  6. Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding
  7. Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock
  8. Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child with bites, stings and minor injuries
  9. Be able to administer first aid to an infant and a child with a suspected fracture
  10. Be able to administer first aid to an infant and a child with head, neck or back injury
  11. Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
  12. Understand how to administer emergency first aid to an infant and a child with an acute medical condition or sudden illness
  13. Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who is experiencing the effects of extreme heat and cold
  14. Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who has sustained an electric shock
  15. Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child with burns or scalds
  16. Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who has been poisoned
  17. Understand how to provide first aid to an infant or child with anaphylaxis

Certification

Assessment is ongoing by the instructor and includes; practical assessment, oral questions and question paper – all of which are based on the skills and knowledge you gain throughout the course. Course regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards Limited (FAA)

FAA are an Awarding Organisation regulated by Ofqual in England, Qualification Wales in Wales, CCEA in Northern Ireland and SQA Accreditation in Scotland

Course length

This course runs over a minimum of 12 hours consisting of theoretical and practical work. Ideally run over two consecutive days, however we have the flexibility to accommodate your specific needs and the course is completed within six weeks.

Regulators

Our first aid courses are delivered through Nuco Trained and Support qualified first aid instructors. Courses are regulated and awarded by First Aid Awards Limited (FAA). FAA are an Awarding Organisation regulated by Ofqual in England, Qualifications Wales in Wales, CCEA in Northern Ireland and SQA Accreditation in Scotland

Entry requirements

Due to the practical nature of the first aid assessments there are physical demands and you must be able to demonstrate your skills as in a real-life situation. An example of this would be to demonstrate CPR on a manikin at floor level.

Dependant on the course learners may be required to be a minimum of 16 years or over – please feel free to contact us for clarification

  • L3 Paediatric First Aid - valid for three years - need to retake for requalification
  • L3 Paediatric First Aid - valid for three years - need to retake for requalification
  • L3 Emergency First Aid - valid for three years - need to take L3 First Aid at Work Requalification for requalification
