  • 1 tablespoon of caster sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of 100% pure apple juice
  • 300g of fresh or frozen blackberries
  • 75g unsalted butter
  • 100g wholemeal flour
  • 50g oats
  • 50g brown sugar

Making your Gruffalo Crumble

Step 1

Pre heat your oven to 180c/ gas mark 4.

Step 2

Peel and core the apples, then chop them into little bite-size pieces.

Step 3

Put the chopped apples and blackberries in a large mixing bowl. Set aside a few of the apple pieces for the decoration at the end.

Step 4

Add the cinnamon, caster sugar and apple juice together, giving everything a good stir. Tip the fruit mixture into the baking dish.

Step 5

Cut the butter into small cubes of around 1cm and add to the other mixing bowl. Add in the flour.

Step 6

Use your fingers to rub the butter and flour together until the mixture looks like crumbs. If you need to add a little more flour to get the desired crumbly texture that’s fine.

Step 7

Stir in the oats and brown sugar.

Step 8

Sprinkle the mixture over the fruit in the baking dish. Try and cover it as evenly as you can.

Step 9

Cook for around 40 minutes. If you used frozen berries it may need cooking for a few minutes longer.

Step 10

Now for the Gruffalo’s face! Cut out the ears, teeth and eyes of your Gruffalo from the leftover apple. Arrange on the crumble, based on our picture above . Slice a grape in half, or any other fruit you have in the house. Add two raisins for eyes.

Step 11

Serve and enjoy your scrumptious Gruffalo Crumble!
