Family Meal Recipes

In this blog we’re bringing together some of our favourite main meal recipes that can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Eating as a family is a great way of spending quality time together. While it may not be possible to do so at all mealtimes, try to plan some time in the week to share meals together. Eating as a family is also a great time to be free from distractions, like the TV and phone, and instead spend time chatting about your day. Family mealtimes are a fantastic way of encouraging little ones to try new family foods, as they love watching and copying those around them!

Try to make mealtimes an enjoyable part of the day so that your little ones look forward to them. For example:

  • Involve them in tasks, such as helping to lay the table, preparing part of the meal (e.g. chopping, mixing) and helping to tidy away
  • Be positive at mealtimes- you don’t have to always focus on the food but chat in general about your day
  • Of course some days will be busier than others, but try not to rush mealtimes and allow children to eat at their pace
  • Give children choices at mealtimes and allow them to self serve and be more independent.

Fish Fingers and Potato Wedges

We loved reacting our favourite Friday night fakeaway. This is the perfect recipe to prepare and enjoy as a family. Your little ones will have lots of messy fun with this recipe. We set up a little production line for dipping the fish in flour, egg and breadcrumbs. You can choose any fish and if you don’t have any dried breadcrumbs you can always make your own by popping some bread slices in the blender. We also made some chunky potato wedges using sweet potatoes and served them with peas.
